Welcome.

It takes tremendous courage to seek help, and you are taking the first step toward receiving support and your journey of healing.

Counseling Services

I provide individual counseling to adults both in person and via telehealth.

My approach is kind, collaborative, eclectic, integrative, and active in nature. I draw upon theory and technique from several approaches and models including, but not limited to, acceptance and commitment therapy, family systems theory, strengths-based therapy, narrative therapy, and trauma-informed therapy.

Counseling Groups

Groups are held throughout the year depending upon need. Sometimes the group is offered in-person and sometimes through a virtual format, depending upon interest. Groups are typically 6-8 weeks, and each group meeting is 1.5 hours. Please contact me for more information and to be placed on a waiting list.

About Me.

Claudia Lineweaver, PhD, LPC

I am a licensed professional counselor who earned my PhD from the University of Virginia. I have approximately 25 years of experience working in the counseling field.

Prior to moving to the Charlottesville area, I operated my private practice, Northern Virginia Counseling, and I served as adjunct faculty for George Washington University. I have an advanced certification in the treatment of trauma, and I am a Certified Grief Educator with world-renowned grief expert David Kessler. I am currently a volunteer moderator with his Tender Hearts program.

Most recently, I presented on the topic of overcoming perfectionism at the Evolution of Addiction Treatment Conference in Los Angeles. I have facilitated numerous counseling groups, including those focused on healthy relationships, recovery from bulimia, domestic violence, divorce, and caregivers of the elderly.

I love the outdoors and watching any sport, especially if one of my children is playing. I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my husband and three sons.

  • “I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for Claudia. She went over and beyond her duties. I have had quite a few counselors and she was the best!”

  • “You helped me find my emotional and spiritual footing through your compassionate counseling.”

  • “You have a real quality about you that makes people feel at ease. Your ability to listen and give honest feedback helped me a lot. I have been in counseling before and not had the same positive experience.”

  • “Claudia was a wonderful counselor. I am overly pleased with the learning and growth that I was able to accomplish with her help. I grew in areas that I had originally not planned to look into. My experience has significantly changed my life for the better.”
